Congregation Administration is designed as a collection of separate courses, led by separate instructors, that address the basic issues confronted by the pastor or lay administrator of a parish. Each course invites you to complete a project that you will put to use in your congregation. You are also invited to share your project, as well as your comments and questions, with other participants in the course via the Forum. Select from the course modules below. You'll be asked to create an account for yourself, which you can use to access any of the remaining modules:
SELECT Multimedia Resources
Select is a program of continuing theological education designed for small groups. These resources are intended specifically for clergy, Deaconesses, Diaconal Ministers, Associates in Ministry and for laity. Select is a program of the Division for Vocation and Education of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), working in cooperation with Lutheran seminaries. However, most of the courses offered are appropriate for use by persons of all denominations.

Looking atthe new Evangelical Lutheran Church in America social statement, "Our alling in Education," this course will explore what public education means to people of faith. Singing with Mind and Spirit: The Hymns of the Church |
Course Start Date: October 2008 Course Duration (or End Date): November 2008 Instructor(s): Mark Mummert Course Description: In Paul's first letter to the people in Corinth, he counseled them on how to sign and to pray: "I will pray with the spirit, but I will pray with the mind also; I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will sing praise with the mind also." This course will study the hymns and songs of the Christian church so that we may sing them with both our minds and our spirits. Structured historically, the course will examine the development of Christian assembly song, the theological content of the song, and the practical ways that hymns participate in a life of faith. Using the worship book, /Evangelical Lutheran Worship/, the course will consider hymns and songs from all times and places. Registration is open during August and September, 2008. Tuition is $130. With All Your Mind: An Introduction to Christian Theology |
Course Start Date: February 2009 Course Duration (or End Date): March 2009 Instructor(s): Martin Lohrmann Course Description: "You shall love the Lord your God...with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37). We are Christian theologians when we use our minds to consider the mysterious goodness of God through Jesus Christ. In this way, theology is for everybody. Participants in this on line course will examine classical theological themes such as creation, redemption and faithful living, especially from a Lutheran perspective.
